How does it work?
Usually a yacht is offered for charter (hire, rent,
lease) by the owner, during periods when they don’t
make use of the yacht themselves. It is in their interests
to use the best captain possible to take care of their
valuable asset. More often than not a yacht owner will
also make use of a managing agent (central agent) to
take care of bookings and the timetable. Although they
may have special offers from time to time there will
be a fixed price for the yacht and a specific contract.
A network of charter brokers will market the yacht on
behalf of the owner, taking information provided by
the owner or the managing agent to find a client (charterer)
to charter the yacht.

Finding the best yacht charter to suit your needs
Once you’ve made the decision to charter a yacht,
let us at Royalty Yachts assist you in the process to
make it easy and enjoyable. We endeavour in satisfying
clients with diverse needs and requirements, so we are
sure we can help by creating your dream private customised
charter.
We specialise in matching the most appropriate yacht
and crew with the client's needs. In order to do this,
we will need some basic information from you – our client.
1. What, where, when?
- Do you need a motor
yacht or a sailing yacht?
A motor yacht can offer speed, plus roominess and luxury. Sailing offers its own thrills, anticipation and excitement. Bear in mind that some locations charge for meals and fuel for motor yachts; these itmems can be included for sailing yachts. - What is your budget?
The following calculations need to be part of your budget:
The basic charter fee, meals on board, beverages and gratuities.
Travelling to and from your ports of embarkation and disembarkation will be additional costs. - Where would you
like to cruise?
Although many clients have very specific ideas of where they would like to travel it is not always possible due to various reasons. We can help you narrow down your alternatives by providing you with suggested destinations and itineraries. Tell us your preliminary thoughts and we will help you finalize your cruise itinerary once you have selected your yacht. - How many in your
party?
We need to know how many people will be in your party as well as their interests. We can then determine which yacht would be suitable for you. Your party’s interests and ages are important to help us allocate you a yacht with the right equipment such as diving gear, fishing tackle and water toys. - When is your vacation?
If you’re looking for a popular destination, then you would be well advised to book early, so as soon as you know where and when you would like to charter, get in touch with us. Typically, bookings are made in weekly chunks, although start and end dates can be flexible. If you give us tentative dates, we can find you the most suitable yacht for those dates and your preferred destinations.
2. Narrowing the field
Given the above information, Royal Yachts can find
you the most appropriate yacht for your charter from
our fleet of yachts across the world to fit your requirements,
with a special recommendation suited to your destinations,
dates, party size and budget.
When you have made your choice, the terms of each yacht
will be explained so that you can make sure of a perfect
match.
3. Reservation
- Charter Agreement:
When you are ready to make your yacht reservation we ask you to review the Charter Agreement and sign it. We will talk you through it to make sure you understand it and are satisfied with the terms therein. - Deposits and Final
Payment:
Having reviewed and signed the agreement, we will require a deposit. If the charter date is more than six months from the date of signing, a deposit of 25% is required. If the charter date is less than six months from the date of signing, the deposit will be 50%
Final payment and the Advanced Provisioning Allowance (APA) for non-inclusive charters, must be made one month from the charter date. For non-inclusive charters, the captain will keep a detailed record of all food and beverage expenses that will need to be checked against advanced funding and the balance settled at the end of the charter. - Food:
Each charter is customized, including food and beverages. To do this, we will send you a detailed questionnaire to find out your food and drink preferences, together with dietary and medical requirements. It’s vital that the crew of the yacht has this information in order to make provisions as required before the charter begins so that you have everything you like, want and need. - Cancellation:
The Charter Agreement form contains details of the terms for a charter cancellation. There is an option for charter cancellation insurance, and we will discuss this with you before your yacht reservation. - Your captain’s
responsibilities:
Your captain is keen to make your charter a customized ‘adventure of a lifetime’ for you. He is responsible for the safety of the yacht and all on board. Thus, when it comes to any issues of safety, the captain always makes the final decision. - Gratuities:
Gratuities are at your discretion, but it is customary to tip the captain and the crew at the end of a charter. The range of a tip is usually from 5 to 15 per cent of the base charter fee, depending upon the level of service you believe you have received.
